Many of the Caribbean islands hit hard by Hurricanes Irma and Maria are now open for business again, and that includes St. Barts, the British Virgin Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
But open for business doesn’t necessarily mean fully open.
Many beachfront resorts in St. Barts are just starting to reopen.
But not all of them.
In the British Virgin Islands, where Irma made a direct hit, many resorts are still closed.
But if you want to charter a sailboat and cruise around the islands, you’re in luck.
In the U.S. Virgin Islands, both St. Thomas and St. John were hit hard, but St. Croix did better.
There is a lot of availability at Airbnbs or on charter yachts.
As for cruise ships, while 43 ports are now open, that doesn’t mean the infrastructure has returned.
So be sure and be clear with the cruise line about your itinerary as well as with your expectations for your cruise when it comes to shore excursions.
